11.08.2002 PEARLE ALFA 147 CHALLENGE: ROUND 6 WIN ELEVATES SANDOR VAN ES INTO CHAMPIONSHIP LEAD
Rounds 5 and 6 of the 2002
Pearle Alfa 147 Challenge saw two closely fought races.
After the last round at Assen, reigning champion Boy Zentveldt's first win of the year had launched him up the championship table to third place, six points behind series leader Sandor Van Es and three points behind early series leader Allard Kalff. Heading back to Assen for round 5, the Rizla+ Race Days, Allard Kalff put his car onto pole. However it was not enough as in-form driver Boy Zentvelt squeezed him out to win the race by less than half a second, with Kalff's team mate, Sebaastian Bleekemolen, taking the final podium slot right on his tail as they crossed the line. With the championship leader Sandor Van Es finishing down in eigth Allard Kalff retook the top spot in the standings. Round 6 supported the prestigious Marboro Masters event at Zandvoort. In front of a huge crowd who had come to see the Formula 3 hot shots take each other on the Alfas took to the seaside track. After his unhappy Assen meeting Sandor Van Es was back with a bang, winning by 1.6 seconds from Rory Bertram. With title rivals Zentveldt, Kalff and Bleekemolen finishing down the order, Van Es takes a narrow two point lead into the series' summer break. |
