Today
was the fifth and final day of testing this week for the Reparto Corse Maserati.
The intensive five day test session has seen the MC 12 cover a high number of
laps, while the day before yesterday, Ferrari's F1 pair, Michael Schumacher and
Rubens Barrichello were given the chance to try the new sportscar.
Once again today, the Ferrari-Maserati Group’s sports test driver Andrea
Bertolini was on track at Fiorano. The day’s programme of development of the
MC12 centred on tyres and took part partly on an artificially wetted track.
Bertolini ran a total of 84 laps with a best time of 1:12.’293.
The MC12, destined to compete in GT races, will have its first public outing on
display in Italy as part of the ‘’Maserati Day’’ which takes place at Valleluga
on 1st and 2nd May.
The track near Rome will be hosting the first round of this season’s Shell
Ferrari Maserati Historic Challenge, for historic cars from both marques, as
well as the Trofeo Vodafone Maserati Europa.
Driving the Ermenegildo Zegna sponsored VIP car in the Trident marque one-make
series at this event will be Giovanna Amati, who drove in Formula 1 in 1992.
Circuit: Fiorano track, 2.976 km – short course 1.413 km; Driver: Andrea
Bertolini; Car: MC12; Weather: air temperature 18/25 °C, track 18/37 °C; clear
skies.
