Today
sees the opening of the "Transpotec Show 2003", the second edition of the
event devoted to commercial vehicles. This international event will bring
sector tradesmen and the major manufacturers of commercial vehicles and
light commercial vehicles together for three days in Parma. Fiat Auto has
always played a leading role in this market and this year brings two significant
new products to the event.
Firstly, the new Fiat Stilo Multi Wagon Van. This vehicle is ideal for light haulage and offers all the practicality and carrying capacity (an impressive 1600 litres) of a Van, plus the comprehensive equipment package of a normal Multi Wagon. The second new product at the show is the revised Fiat Strada Pick Up. The model comes with a more up-to-date and appealing look and offers long cabin versions and, for the first time, an 80 bhp 1.9 JTD engine. These two new products are flanked on the Fiat stand by models representing the whole range of Fiat LCVs variously outfitted for haulage and work. Visitors can view another 6 vehicles from the range outside the exhibition area. The grand total of 21 vehicles on show represents only a small portion of the numerous customisation options. The product range includes mobile workshops, box-sided vehicles, insulated vehicles and vehicles with a refrigeration chamber. |
The
Parma Show sees the debut of the Fiat Stilo Multi Wagon Van which offers
all the characteristics of the Multi Wagon combined with all the practicality
and load capacity (no less than 1600 litres) of a true workhorse.
The Fiat Stilo Multi Wagon Van is destined to replace the Fiat Marengo, a vehicle that sold more than 23,000 units throughout its life cycle. The new model one of the most comfortable vehicles in its segment: 4.51 metres in length, 1.75 metres in width, 1.57 metres in height with a wheelbase of 2.60 metres. The load compartment offers a working length of 1682 millimetres and a height of 945 millimetres, while the width ranges from a minimum of 1137 mm (between wheelarches) to a maximum of 1442. The load compartment, separated from the passenger compartment by a steel partition, is lined by a black PVC carpet and fitted with 6 goods anchorage hooks. The rear side windows are darkened. The payload varies from version to version: from 460 to 570 kg including the driver. Fiat's new van also comes with a luggage compartment that is easily accessible from side and rear due to a load threshold 537 millimetres off the ground. |

Tomorrow will see the opening
of the "Transpotec Show 2003", the second edition of the event devoted

and the major manufacturers of commercial vehicles and light commercial
vehicles together for three days in Parma. Fiat Auto has always played

Receiving its world premiere in Parma will be the revised Palio-based Strada Pick Up. The model comes with a more up-to-date and appealing look and offers long cabin versions and, for the first time, a spirited 80 bhp 1.9 JTD engine. The New Strada will be built at the FIASA plant in Betim, Brazil, and follows in the footsteps of a vehicle that already leads the South American light transport market with sales of 25,000 every year and the small pick-up sector in Italy, 3600 sold in 2002. |

Lamborgini's new Gallardo sportscar was launched to the world two weeks ago today at the 73rd Geneva Motor Show. Aiming to take on Ferrari's 360 Modena, the Gallardo adds a second product line to the Italian marque as they enter their 40th anniversary year. Designed by the same Audi team that were responsible for the Mucielago, it draws styling cues from its larger sister. Powered by a new V10, based around Audi's V8 with an additional pair of cylinders added-on, the new model boasts a claimed 500bhp and performance-wise should outclass its Ferrari rival. | |||||||

Hard on the heels of the
re-worked Maserati Auge and G.C. Alfa Romeo-based concept seen in Geneva
this week, Castagna have revealed glimpses of the Rosselini Barchetta which
will première during the “Concorso di Villa d’Este” that will be
held in Cernobbio, Como, Italy from April 25th-28th.
It is dedicated to the great Italian director Roberto Rossellini, a real Ferrari enthusiast. Infact, he personally ordered a number of coachbuilt Ferraris. Among them was the famous 375 Mille Miglia, often seen with Ingrid Bergmann at the wheel. The coachwork will cover a sporting Ferrari chassis, raced during last year's GT championship. In the form of a barchetta, Castagna claim it will be a fully working prototype. |

The
73rd edition of the Geneva Motor Show comes to a close today after being
open to the public for the last ten days. For the Fiat Group, struggling
to extract itself from a precarious financial position, the Show has been
of particular significance. In their own words, Geneva has seen the company
relaunch itself with a raft of new products, concepts and ideas.
Most significant have been the two small cars, the Gingo and Idea, both vital to the company's successful future health. The Gingo, which replaces the Seicento, and the Idea, a Punto based first foray into the B-segment MPV market, have been very well received, with Fiat managers upbeat about their sales potential. They have been joined by the Gingo-based Marrakesh buggy concept, tweaked Stilo Abarth and restyled Barchetta. Alfa Romeo introduced the 156-based Coupe GT, their return to the two door Coupe market, while the Kamal SUV concept has been one of the shows stars. These models were joined by the restyled GTV and Spider, while the Autodelta name returned here. Lancia's stand meanwhile was dominated by the stylish new Ypsilon. The Italian sportscar manufacturer's have not been idle here too. The long awaited Lamborghini Gallardo which goes head-to-head with the Ferari 360 Modena received its premiere here, while Ferrari unveiled a beefed up Modena, the Challenge Stradale, which aims to counter the Lamborgini threat. Pagani took the wraps off a Roadster version of the Zonda C12 S while coachbuilder Castagna bounced back with new designs and concepts. |
